#TheCove Tsunami – UPDATE

I copied the following from Steven Thompson‘s facebook page. He lives in Japan Please also Click Here to read Sea Shepherd’s report.

Click Here to see video streemed live by the Cove Guardians. This was after the quake but before the tsunami.

Dear Friends:

Japanese are still gauging the situation.

Train lines stopped in the north. Fires burning out of control. Firefighters cannot access the locations.

Still no news from friends in Iwate including Scott, Tarah, Brian and three others who were scheduled to arrive maybe yesterday. Phone lines and electric lines are down in the north.

I’m looking for iodine pills in reaction to the Fukushima nuclear release. Japan has not always been forthright in open and honest regarding health issues.

Taiji dolphins pens were pushed into the rocks in six surges. Cries were au…dible to Aussie observer. He is trying to leave town.

Kansai area (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto seem unaffected by the waves or earthquake damage).

LA Times seems to share more information than Japan:
Scientists said the quake ranked as the fifth-largest earthquake in the world since 1900 and was nearly 8,000 times stronger than one that devastated Christchurch, New Zealand, last month.

“The energy radiated by this quake is nearly equal to one month’s worth of energy consumption” in the United States, U.S. Geological Survey Scientist Brian Atwater told The Associated Press.

Screams were from dolphins from an Aussie near the area. He went safely up Tsunami Hill. Sorry to report that none of the dolphins were seen to have escaped. Boats did get out to ride out the waves.

UPDATE: As I was preparing this post, Steven shared the following….

Brian and 5 friends are tired but safe! I spoke with Brian briefly 10 minutes ago. He can call me but I cannot get to him with phone lines jammed. They spent the night on a hill, abandoned their car, walked through much destruction for miles till they made it to their hotel. They have electricity and said they were discussing what their options were:-)
