Homeless for a Month in Rome #Georgia #rnt
Today, I will have been homeless for one full month. It makes no sense. There are empty buildings and empty houses here in Rome, Georgia. They are just sitting there. I guess the owners think that they can take the places with them when they die – if they are vacant.
There are apartments vacant. These apartments are a part of the housing authority. They are completely furnished and void of human occupancy. Why? They are being kept as emergency housing for the homeless! Where is the logic in this? Why does someone have to roam the streets in Rome, Georgia while waiting for assistance when the assistance is there?
Furthermore, they cut my food stamps. Why? Because I am not paying rent! Oh, God forbid that I would be able to save my money to get a place to live! No way! Floyd county won’t hear of it! Since I’m not paying rent, it’s only fair that I use my meager income to buy food! This system is designed to keep the poor in poverty and I have no idea how long I will be in this situation.
Well, here’s to my one-month anniversary of homelessness! ‘Tis the season to be jolly!
New Living Translation (NLT)
20 The poor are despised even by their neighbors,
while the rich have many “friends.”
