Hong Kong Airlines Says No More Flying Dolphins – Washington DC Animal Advocacy | Examiner.com
Six days after the social media campaign Save Misty the Dolphin launched an online petition urging Hong Kong Airlines to “Stop Profiting from the Misery of the Taiji Dolphins” the air carrier has issued a statement indicating it will “immediately ban shipments of this kind.”
News of the airline’s shipment of 5 dolphins from the infamous Cove of Taiji, Japan, was leaked to the media by concerned employees within the airline. An article published by Simon Parry in the February 22 edition of the China Daily Newspaper exposed an airline memo congratulating employees for a successful operation, boasting about the $875,000HK earned from the January 16 transport and suggesting that this would be a lucrative avenue for future business ventures. A member of the Save Misty the Dolphin team spotted the China Daily Newspaper article and within a day the petition was started on Change.org.
